A couple of images edited in Camera Raw. Their empty couch counterparts were edited with the exact same settings so that the images would have the same white balance and tone.
Adding other images in Photoshop.
My models gave me a short list of items/people they would have in their perfect selfies, which gave me a good starting point. I couldn't add everything, as some of the things just didn't go with the theme, and some I couldn't source and use legally.
Aidan
- the moon
- a really expensive guitar
- Blake Lively (the actress)
- a creeper (from Minecraft)
- the Eiffel Tower
Ellie
- lemon trees
- a goat
- the giant wasp (from a Doctor Who episode)
- Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory
- Surtur scene (from 'Thor Ragnarok')
This is a finished photo and I'm actually really happy with it. I think the original photo was good as I gave myself a lot of blank wall space to work with, which is why I think this one is successful. It is also nice because it has orange and blue (unintentionally) which always make for a pleasing colour combination. This image is also successful as it has mess and regular things left in the sides of the image, such as the clothes horse, and wall sockets.
This is the other composition I'm working with currently. I'm not as happy with this, I think the angle gave me less space to work with, although it is an interesting perspective. I think with some playing around I could get it to a place that I'm happy with.
Trying out a spotlight sort of effect to highlight the areas that are in the line of the camera, and to make the rest of the image seem ordinary.
I'm not really keen on any of these spotlight/highlight effects. I'm hoping that these images are clear enough that I don't need to highlight the areas of interest as I think it makes the image cluttered and disjointed. It also almost takes away from the fact that it is in a student flat.
In an ideal world I would have photos, all from different flats, but that is just not possible for me to achieve time wise, so I am going to continue with the scene from my own flat. I think it will make the series more cohesive anyway as all the tones and colours will be similar if not the same.
I am also worried about the number of photos I have. Each of these images took me a while to put together, and I didn't even spend as much time cutting out as I would have liked to - the edges are not perfect. I think my series will be at 4 images maximum, as it is unreasonable to have more images of the same set of couches than that, and considering the time it takes me to photoshop each image, this seems doable. I wouldn't even be surprised if my series is only 3 images. I don't know if it is 'strong' enough for that though.
